- Mood:

My mom came over again to help me say goodbye to 2007 and hello to 2008. We had a yummy New Year's Eve meal of appetizers - steamed shrimp, piggies in blankets, mini crab cakes, hot wings, celery with blue cheese, and pickled green tomatoes (I think I'm now addicted to those) - and some Riesling to drink. We watched Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn in Holiday on DVD and a couple of Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers movies that were on TCM. Then we popped open a bottle of champagne for a midnight toast while the neighbors set off some fireworks.
I made some black eyed peas with yellow rice for dinner tonight. The black eyed peas are supposed to bring good luck if you eat them on New Year's Day. I've never had them before, so I figured I'd give it a whirl. They were pretty good. We'll have to wait and see to find out if they're magic beans.
It's back to work for me tomorrow. I know, sad isn't it? I've been off for 11 days, but it only feels like 3. I want a do-over!
Oh well, at least it's a super short week since I'm also taking Friday off for my birthday.
