Butcher, Baker, or Candlestick Maker?

  • What's for Dinner: Shrimp and pasta alfredo
What a glorious day! We hit a record-breaking 73 degrees.  It's unbelievable that we just had that snowstorm less than a week ago.

I went to happy hour last night with a group from work. Fun times.  We haven't done that in a long time and we all really needed it. This week we heard another big group of people got let go. They say my area is safe for now from this wave of layoffs, but there are more to come. So who knows about 3 months, 6 months, or even a year from now. Everybody pretty much walks around on eggshells waiting for the other shoe to fall.

I sometimes hear people on TV talking about what to do if you lose your job, and so many of them say to take it as an opportunity to pursue your passion. But what if you don't know what that is? Throughout my life I've been interested in a lot of different things, but I've never felt pulled toward one in particular. Once when I was cleaning out a bunch of my old essays and things my mom saved from when I was in elementary school, I found some regarding what I wanted to be when I grew up. I chose something different each time. And the truth is that I still don't know. Sometimes I feel like maybe I've wasted my life or at least didn't take full advantage of it. I see people my age who are renowned in their fields or who hold important positions and I wonder, "Could that or should that have been me?"
