Rainy Days and Homelessness Always Get Me Down

It's been raining for about a week, so it makes getting up in the morning even harder than usual. This morning I was lying in bed after hitting the snooze button when Oscar jumped up and started tapping me in the face with his paw. I brushed him away, but he continued to stand there and then sneezed right in my face. Ewwwwww! I'm sure I'll soon be patient zero in a new Feline Flu pandemic.

On my way to work I saw an elderly homeless lady walking in the drizzle, wearing her hooded coat and pushing a small cart with a pillow on top that was in a plastic shopping bag to keep it dry. It made me sad. Then a couple minutes later I passed by a community theater and noticed what appeared to be one of those plastic hamster cages sitting at the top of the steps in front of the doors. It reminded me of the stories you hear about a baby being left in a basket on somebody's doorstep. Since the theater is just off-campus of the local college and lots of students live in that area, I can only guess that one of them is getting ready to move out at the end of this semester and can't take their pet with them. That made me sad too.

It can be redeemed through May 19, 2009, but is not valid on Mother's Day.
