At the Movies

Last night TCM aired a couple of Alfred Hitchcock movies. Normally I really like those. I watched Vertigo again. It's probably the fourth or fifth time I've seen it, and I think I dislike it more each time. Usually a movie protagonist is a fairly likable person, even if he has some flaws. IMO though, Jimmy Stewart's character is nothing but a jerk. I don't want to give too much of the story away for those who haven't seen it yet, but he treats his long-suffering ex-fiance like dirt, even though she seems to be one of the few friends he has and it's very apparent that she loves him, even when his actions break her heart. Instead of ex-fiance, he'd rather pursue an unattainable head case. When that doesn't work out for him, he then resorts to trying to morph a look-alike into the head case. He doesn't even see or care that this woman is a person with her own thoughts and feelings; he just wants her to conform to an image in his mind. What a butthead.

North by Northwest came on after that. Now there's a good flick. I was heading to bed, but I've seen it several times too. I recorded it to add to my collection of favorites. You really can't go wrong with Cary Grant.

Oh yeah...I didn't find a million dollars yesterday. My power must only work on candy.

I love North by Northwest! Boy, I need to go out and rent that again sometime soon. I think it's probably been 10 years since I've seen it. :)
